Credit Cards
Credit Cards are similar to debit cards albeit the main difference being that debit cards do not carry a line of credit, as credit cards do.
With credit cards, you are offered a credit limit by the financial institution, and you are allowed to make purchases up to that amount. Credit card repayments are usually made monthly. An advantage of credit cards is that if you do not have the money in your account, you can still make a purchase using your credit card as long as your limit has not be exceeded. however this can, of course be a disadvantage. It means you are not spending youre own money - rather relying on credit from your provider. Whilst this is not necessarily a problem per se, without financial discipline credit card holders can easly get in trouble as credit card interest charges and late payment charges quickly add up.
One way to get the best of both worlds (the features & cash flow that a credit card provides, together with the 'safety' of a debit card) is to organise for an automatic sweep of your credit card when payment is due. As long as you have money in your account to make this payment, this should eliminate credit card interest charges (which can be expensive)
